چکیده

Abstract Background Resting pulmonary hypertension (PH) is not uncommon in patients with chronic obstructive disease (COPD). In the current study, we aimed to identify physiological predictors of resting PH COPD. Methods We retrospectively analyzed data derived from right heart catheterization sixty-nine stable Patients were categorized into COPD-PH ( n = 33) and COPD-non-PH 36), based on “6 th World Symposium PH.” Results Demographics, forced expiratory volume 1 s (FEV ), lung volumes, cardiac output, index similar between groups, yet had greater vascular resistance (PVR) lower PaO 2 P < 0.05). The proportion did differ across range FEV χ 3.01, 0.22). No correlations found PVR degree airflow obstruction or hyperinflation. was only predictor both artery pressure PVR. Conclusions Increased PVR, response arterial hypoxemia directly induced by tobacco smoking, likely key factor that led sample moderate-severe COPD, regardless limitation

Pulmonary hypertension associated with COPD

Pulmonary hypertension is a common complication of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The increase in pulmonary artery pressures is often mild to moderate, but some patients may suffer from severe pulmonary hypertension, and present with a progressively downhill clinical course because of right-sided heart failure added to ventilatory handicap. The cause of pulmonary hypertension in ...

Pulmonary hypertension associated with COPD

Although the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is not known precisely, approximately 10%-30% of patients with moderate to severe COPD have elevated pulmonary pressures. The vast majority of PH associated with COPD is mild to moderate and severe PH occurs in < 5% of patients. When COPD is associated with PH, both mortality ...

Thalassemia Associated Pulmonary Hypertension

Cardiac disease is the main cause of death in both forms of thalassemia; thalassemia major (TM) and thalassemia intermedia (TI). Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is one of the cardiopulmonary morbidities with high mortality that, if not treated, may trigger right-sided heart failure and premature death. PH is defined as a mean pulmonary artery pressure of ≥25 mmHg at rest or ≥30 mmHg during exercise...

A retrospective analysis to identify predictors of COPD-related rehospitalization

BACKGROUND Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is often associated with recurrent hospitalizations. This study aimed to identify factors related to COPD rehospitalization. METHODS A national US claims database was used to identify patients, aged ≥40 years, hospitalized for COPD. Their first COPD-related hospital admission date in 2009 was set as the index date, with post-discharge CO...

Pulmonary hypertension in COPD.

Mild-to-moderate pulmonary hypertension is a common complication of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); such a complication is associated with increased risks of exacerbation and decreased survival. Pulmonary hypertension usually worsens during exercise, sleep and exacerbation. Pulmonary vascular remodelling in COPD is the main cause of increase in pulmonary artery pressure and is tho...
